Our Purpose
Our Purpose - and Mission Statement
Our Mission Statement is based on two instructions that Jesus gave to His disciples. He told us that the greatest commandment was, “Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second most important commandment is this: Love your neighbour as you love yourself.” (Mark 12 : 29 – 31.) From these two commandments we learn the central importance of expressing our love for God through worship and behaving in a loving way to those who need our help. On another occasion Jesus defined our neighbour as those who need our help. (Luke 9 : 25 - 37.)
Jesus last words before He left the earth were these: “Go to all people everywhere and make them my disciples: baptise them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And I will be with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28 : 19 – 20.) Jesus told His disciples that they were to share what they had learnt from Him, that they were to baptise and bring people into the fellowship of the Church and that they were to instruct them in the way of Christ.
It is from what Jesus said on these occasions that along with many other Christians, we draw what we believe to be the essential character of a Healthy Church, which is what we aim to be.
