Sunday Worship
Sunday Worship in Heswall United Reformed Church
10.30am - 11.45am
This is our main service on a Sunday with about 120 adults in attendance, plus 30 – 40 children and young people. It appeals to people of all ages, but is primarily focused towards families.
The first part of the service is designed to be child friendly, using contemporary songs and led by the church music group. The children are not just tolerated. We enjoy their contribution to our worship. They regularly take part in the readings from the Bible and prayers and in this part of the service there is a strong emphasis on an interactive approach. After a period of about 20 minutes the children and young people leave for their own activities, appropriate to their age group. We also have a crèche for the youngest children.
After the children leave us the service has an adult focus. We use songs from a wide variety of sources, including songs from the Iona and Taizé communities, contemporary as well as traditional hymns, led by either the music group or the organ.
Holy Communion is usually celebrated on the first Sunday of the month and we have healing services every other month. The date of these services is advertised on the church website.

Coffee and tea are served after the service in the hall, where we have the opportunity to talk to old friends and meet new ones.

5.00 pm - 6.00pm
This is a traditional service, The singing is almost entirely of well known hymns, accompanied by the organ and there are no child centred activities. The is service tends to attract those who like a quieter, more formal style of worship.
6.30 pm - 7.30pm
This service is anything but traditional, though it does take a range of forms, varying from Youth Services once a month to Prayers around the Cross, using songs and prayers from the Taizé Community. Some of the services are loud and lively, others are more quiet and reflective. What is consistent is that the 6.30 service is that it is the least like “normal church,” and we enjoy the freedom to experiment with different forms of worship. About thirty young people attend this service, plus 20 – 30 adults.

All of these services are very different, and each has a different group of people in mind. In this way we hope to cater for people of different ages and tastes.
